Bio

Dr. Rasmussen comes to TMU with impressive academic credentials and high-level, hands-on experience — including administrative roles with the LA Galaxy and the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team.

Most recently, Rasmussen completed a successful five-year run at Columbia International University in South Carolina, where he created and directed the school’s undergraduate Sport Management program.

Rasmussen’s career began at Southern Methodist University in Dallas where he was an assistant soccer coach before leaving for a head coaching job at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. He later held positions on the administrative staffs of the U.S. Men’s National and Olympic soccer teams — as well as roles with three Major League Soccer clubs. Notably, he was the LA Galaxy’s director of operations and player development during the team’s inaugural MLS season in 1996.

During his career, Rasmussen has also been an athletic director (Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa.) and an organizer for multiple cycling tours and wilderness adventure trips.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Rasmussen earned a master’s in physical education from Southern Methodist University and a Doctor of Education in sport administration and management from Temple University in Philadelphia.

Rasmussen and his wife, Debby, have three grown children.
