Educational Quality

Philosophy of Education Statement

The Master’s University is a comprehensive liberal arts and professional preparation institution, using biblically-centered curricula and co-curricular programs to educate maturing disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. We affirm and teach that:

  • The Holy Bible provides the authoritative base of our curricula, and that each academic discipline must be evaluated from a biblical perspective. That which is in harmony with the Word of God is truth and that which contradicts it is in error. We exercise thoughtful Christian liberty where the Scripture permits it.

  • There is no dichotomy between the sacred and secular; we treat the pursuit of education as an act of worship that honors and glorifies God.

  • The goal of education is to prepare the whole person. We seek to instill in our students the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for their chosen profession, while cultivating their spiritual growth, strengthening their moral character, and developing their abilities as citizens and leaders.

About Educational Quality
at The Master’s University and Seminary

It is the commitment of The Master’s University and Seminary (TMUS) to offer challenging academic degree programs that seek to ensure student mastery of the skills and knowledge which are critical to success in one’s chosen profession, as well as preparation for further education at the graduate level. At the same time the university and Seminary make it a priority to provide support systems to maximize the potential for students to complete their degree work in a timely manner.

The following links provide access to data and a number reports which address both the areas of educational quality and student success.

Common Data Sets

The Common Data Set (CDS) initiative is a collaborative effort among data providers in the higher education community and publishers as represented by the College Board, Peterson's, and U.S. News & World Report. The combined goal of this collaboration is to improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers. Data is presented in the same "common" format used by most higher education institutions to facilitate comparisons among institutions.

Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory Summary Reports

The Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) is a 100\+ item national survey which asks students to use two 7-step scales to rate the relative importance and their relative satisfaction with virtually every aspect of college life.  The Master's University administered the SSI annually from 1997 to 2008 during the month of November.  Beginning in 2010, the schedule was shifted to administer the survey to its students during the fall semester of every even-numbered years.

The summaries of results from TMU's administration of the SSI can be accessed via the links below:

Performance Summaries for TMU Students
on Program-Level Learning Outcomes

TMU uses the Assessment, Evaluation, Feedback, & Intervention System (AEFIS) to collect and summarize assessment data relating to student mastery of the Program-Level Learning Outcomes (PLOs) for each major, emphasis, and degree program.

Below are links to reports that summarize data collected in each academic program over the most recent two to four academic terms. For each PLO, the types of data that may be present include:

  • Student performance on major course-based examinations.
  • Faculty evaluations of student projects, papers, and performances.
  • Student performance on national senior subject matter examinations (e.g., the ETS Major Field Tests).

A diagram explaining how to interpret the data summary reports is can be accessed here.
