Pearl C. Schaffer School of Education

Overview

The School of Education equips and empowers effective educators, developing Christ-like, professionals called to ensure life-changing learning for all students. It also provides a flexible path for students with varied interests to explore an interdisciplinary education and for transfer students with credits from prior college coursework.

Why TMU

The classroom experience of every student — whether in kindergarten or college — depends primarily on the attitude and skill of the teacher. In light of that truth, we see both a serious responsibility and an incredible opportunity. Graduates of our programs will be on the frontlines of teaching and shaping the next generation, and we want to equip them with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in their profession and to shine as lights for Christ.

Taught from a biblical worldview by faculty with more than a century of combined classroom experience, our programs explain the methodology behind what takes place in the classroom and provide hands-on experiences meant to prepare students to hit the ground running in their first job.

Our student-teachers and graduates are in high demand, both at the elementary and secondary levels. We have developed strong relationships with public and private schools in our area, across the nation and internationally. We also provide a flexible undergraduate path for students looking for a well-rounded education and for transfers who arrive at Master’s with credits from prior college coursework.

Emphases

We offer two emphasis within the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies major. The teacher education track is tailored for those interested in teaching at the elementary school level. The general emphasis suits those looking for a broad, interdisciplinary education and is especially transfer friendly.
