Health Insurance

International Students coming from other countries need to know that health insurance is required when coming to study in America. Health care is not provided by the government, so therefore all health care must be paid for by the individual. One means of taking care of this is by purchasing a health insurance policy which will cover major expenses (Note: Students will still pay some costs out of pocket. Review your Health Insurance Policy for specifics.). Therefore, all enrolled students must during Pre-Registration either:

  • Complete the Health Insurance Waiver in Pre-Registration (Pre-Registration change form), or

  • Enroll in TMU’s student insurance program, which is available to students who enroll in the fall, spring and summer semesters.

If you carry your own insurance, it is important that you understand the benefits of your medical insurance plan before you incur unnecessary costs. Always feel free to ask your health care provider if the services he or she is about to perform are covered by the medical insurance that you have.

Additionally, only go to medical facilities or emergency rooms that honor the insurance that you have selected for yourself. If you carry the student insurance offered by The Master’s University, then go into the Health Center on campus and get the most up-to-date information on urgent care or local doctors that can serve you and keep your costs to a minimum.

We encourage students to research insurance options in their home country. This can save money and time. It would be well worth your time to research these options and compare them to TMU’s insurance plan.

Know What is Covered and What is Not!

Once you are covered by an insurance plan, they should provide a list for you of which doctors and facilities you may visit, and what services are covered. It is very important that you understand that the insurance company is legally required to pay for expenses that fall within the benefits that they list, but will not pay for something that is outside of those benefits. So, as you seek medical attention, make sure before you go to an urgent care facility or a doctor’s office that the expenses incurred will be covered by the benefits in your plan.

Here you can find the benefits that you receive from TMU’s Health Insurance. If you purchase Student Insurance, it is important that you read this information.

ISO Care Health Insurance

TMU’s Insurance is a more comprehensive plan and if International Students are looking for another option, we have had many students get ISO Care Insurance. This insurance is not as comprehensive as TMU’s but you can save a little money with this plan. Please make sure you compare policies. If you incur medical costs, you will pay a lot more with this plan. Find more information here.
