Natural History/Environmental Biology

Overview

The Natural History & Environmental Biology emphasis is ideal for students who thrive in the great outdoors and love wildlife. As Christians, we believe that we are called to be good stewards of this world God has given us, responsibly utilizing its resources in order to sustain life. To this end, environmental biologists work to preserve and restore the environment by identifying problems related to pollution, habitat destruction, or other environmental issues, and then providing solutions.

Studies in environmental biology focus mainly on lab courses and fieldwork experiences, which prepare our students for technical, research, or consultant positions in the field. Environmental biologists are in high demand in California, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an 11% overall increase in jobs within the field.

But above and beyond preparing students for rewarding and in-demand careers, our department is committed to producing students who are exemplary witnesses for Christ, and we teach every class on the unshakable foundation of Scripture. Students graduate ready to excel in their chosen fields and to defend their faith as well-equipped and intellectual professionals.

We hold Christ and Scripture as inerrant and above all else. Everything is interpreted through that lens without compromise. This means the bible is the foundation for science, not science for the bible.

Dr. Joe Francis, Dean of the School of Science
