Applied Mathematics

Overview

The Applied Mathematics emphasis provides a strong foundation for the student interested in pursuing graduate study or for students pursuing careers in applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, or probability theory. Our graduates are prepared for everyday ministry as a vocational mathematician, and they are equipped to enter a field where the average salary in California ranges from $62,000 to $73,000, and up to $140,000+, according to PayScale. Students in the Applied Mathematics program will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of probability theory
  • Use probability and statistical inferences to draw conclusions
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the concepts and methods of applied mathematics, especially through the use of computational tools
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of mathematical applications in a variety of applied fields
  • Demonstrate mastery of the various methods of discrete mathematics
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the properties of complex numbers and complex-valued functions

Due to the ever-increasing influence of technology, the study of mathematics is crucial for logical thinking and preparation for any technical vocation. The Department of Mathematics provides a thorough and robust understanding of mathematics as a part of God’s creation in a concentrated effort to integrate faith and learning. The small class sizes are optimal for detailed, personal, and focused training in each area. Math students at TMU are challenged and strengthened incalculably through their studies to thrive in any math-based job they enter after graduation.
