Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
Students with off-campus internship (paid or unpaid) or employment opportunities must receive CPT authorization from ISO prior to beginning their internship/employment. CPT is authorized on a semester-basis by ISO.
CPT Eligibility
To be eligible for CPT, you must satisfy the following requirements:

One Year of F-1 status\ You must have maintained F-1 status for at least one academic year before your requested CPT start date. **Transfer students who have been in valid F-1 status at another institution directly prior to starting their academic program at TMU/TMS will be given credit for such F-1 status

Enrollment in an Internship Course:\ You must enroll in a internship course in the same semester you are requesting CPT authorization. If your internship/employment opportunity is during Summer, you must be enrolled in an Internship course during Summer or either spring of fall semester.
**Failure to complete your CPT course will result in termination of your F-1 status.\ \ **You must maintain full-time enrollment (including CPT course units) during the academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters). Full-time enrollment is not required for Summer.
Please follow the steps below to request for Curricular Practical Training (CPT):
Step 1: Obtain an Employment Verification/Offer Letter
Obtain an off-campus internship or employment verification/offer that is directly related to your field of study.
Step 2: Enroll in an Internship Course
Enroll in an internship course to receive academic credit for your off-campus internship or employment.
Step 3: Complete ISO CPT Request Form
Complete the CPT Request form including your employment start and end dates and your employer’s address.
*Note: You may not start working until you have received your new CPT I-20 from ISO.
